Armiger Knight Estratus of Forgeworld Brakhus-Alpha

Hey hey hey,

So I am deep in my thesis writing, hence the lack of anything on here! But it is going well, and fingers crossed I will be submitted in a couple of months or so. Then I will sleep again! So, so tired...

Anyway, in my little spare time I have had, work has progressed on chipping paint and I finally had the courage to apply it to one of my brand new Armiger miniatures which was the whole point of the practise exercises.

Overall, I'm pretty happy with how this came out. I have 3 more to paint in a similar style and I am confident that the execution should improve as I go along. In terms of bases, they will be having swamp styled bases that means I have to do some further practise with water effects, to create ankle deep water for at least a couple of the bases. So expect to see some practise work at some point.

With the final knight I was considering making a tutorial for how I did all of the painting and chipped/rust effects. But only if people would find that helpful, as lord above it slows down painting to take pictures of every (of the many many  many) stages.

Would that be useful?

I still want to get some black weathering powder to apply to the ends of the melta weapons, but I haven't been able to make it to the hobby shop that sells it in town recently.

Back to Deathguard after this Sojourn and then onto... Aeldari!

Peace out,

Rob

Legio Cybernetica Imperial Knight - TO WAR!

Hey all,

Not 100% finished, but it is really minor things like weathering the barrel of the cannon and adding binaric script to the chest scroll that need doing on this chap. No name yet, still working on appropriate background fluff for my entire Legio Cybernetica as well as the Knight.

I'm really happy with how the yellow has turned out on the large curved areas, I think it has a nice variety of tones to give it believable depth and age. Apologies for the slightly dark photos though, I couldn't fit the knight in my light box so I had to improvise!

I'm not all that when it comes to conversion work, so I know there are bits where I should probably have filled it in, but I'm going for a - straight off the shop floor and not quite finished look... *cough* ;) let me know what you think!

Peace out,

Rob

An Evenings Work - Imperial Knight Progress

S'up peoples,

So yesterday I (hopefully!) piqued your interest on my Imperial Knight work. This is one of those projects that spent a long time half built in a box waiting for my enthusiasm for it to return, and it has returned with vengeance! Not necessarily because I'm excited to paint it per se, but more that I'm excited to nearly get the Mechanicum finished and off my damn to-do list!

Anyways, here is how I left you yesterday...

And here is where we found ourselves at close of day last night!

Well I had intended to stop at this point... But I then got a small second wind and applied warplock bronze to all of the plate trimming bar the pauldrons for the shoulders. So I have a little more of that to do then all of the metal apart from the main body needs a nuln oil wash. The skulls and scroll work will get washes as well and then highlighting can begin with aplomb! The yellow and black also need some various amounts of line highlighting doing as well.

The shield will receive a substantial amount of weathering as well, mainly to hide the poor conversion work!

The only bits still to be prepared are all the railings for the top of the chassis, but they will be done last as finishing touches so that they don't get in the way of the highlighting stage. Plus the base needs to be built...

It is getting there anyway!

Peace out,

Rob

Oh and the rivets...

Building Site - Imperial Knight and others....

Hey all,

Now that the Night Lords have vacated my premises (didn't give so much as a by your leave) I now have time and space to crack on with my Heresy armies primarily. I am very keen to finish off the armies that I have mostly complete, which constitutes the Mechanicum and my Shattered Legion.

I DO however also have a desire to make some headway on my (nearly) entirely third party parts Imperial Militia force as well... So here are a few pictures of some building and painting headway I made last night. I am hoping that the Imperial Knight will be finished this week and then I can start on my counts as Anacharis Scoria using the Belisarius Cawl model!

And the first nudge at my Imperial Militia...

Peace out,

Rob

Imperial Knight and Legion of the Damned - Update

What do?

So last night I was busy putting together more of my knight as I wanted to use it in a 3000 point game I am playing tonight. I don't like playing with unpainted models but this will be the only one and its so my opponent can use his falchion glaive tank guilt free :P!! I am surprised how well the shield has turned out so far, I am very poor at scratchbuilding stuff so this is something of a triumph for me. I know it won't be everyone's cup of tea (other caffeinated drinks are available), but the slab look was what I was going for to be honest.

The shield isn't done nor is it the last thing I am modding on this bastard. I also plan to shoulder mount the weapon so that I can swap out any of the main guns for the paladin, errant and styrix knight. I will be using it as a Stryix tonight. I don't plan to add a mask to the face, I really like the exposed bionics look and it matches my fluff that the whole mechanicum army has been commandeered by Anacharis Scoria from the production stages of a forgeworld.

I also did a few very minor and subtle changes to my legion of the damned test model. Primarily I used dry brush blending to try and enhance the flame effects as was suggested by many of you. I'm now happy personally with how he looks so I will be carrying this forward on to the remaining 9!

Tune in tomorrow for... something... or nothing. I haven't really decided yet... Ooooooh tension. I'm writing this at 5.30AM I am VERY TIRED.

Peace out,

Rob

Imperial Knight in Forge World Fires - WIP Part 1

What is up my gang,

So having traded in my Magic the Gathering cards for both the Legion of the damned (more on them tomorrow) as well as half of the Imperial Knight Renegade boxed game, I have been soldiering on with both of these projects. Today I give you a few sneak (and poorly photographed) shots of how my Knight is coming along.

The knight is intended to be able to ally with any of my Imperial Faction armies, but mainly it will represent a Mechanicum Indentured Knight for my Legio Cybernetica Cohort. This means it will also be a yellow and black colour scheme. I am hoping it will scale up well to that size!

I have been very keen to make the knight unique to me and so grand plans for conversions have been afoot! Firstly I wanted to have both left and right hands for the Knight, so I set about converting a right handed thunder strike gauntlet and secondly, what fit knight doesn't have a sword and shield!? So they are needed too.... I haven't put any details down on how I achieved any of this as I can't imagine to many are interested? If you are I will detail how I did stuff :)

Left and right thunder strike gauntlets - I'm very pleased with these!

The right legs was compeltely separated at the knee to allow more flexibility in the movement.

The torso is of course magnetised on - Nick at The Burning Eye gave me a tip for that and he should be posting a guide to it soon enough so watch his blog :)

A close up of how far back the converted leg goes. I had to remove a cable attachment to get the desired flex but I am going to be adding my own cables anyway.

A final (over exposed) shot of how the stance generally looks. (The brown thing hanging in the back ground is my Jedi Robe)

I know the photography isn't great but I was in a bit of rush so you have my appologies! I like to think these type of posts are the exception these days! I am working on the right arm at the moment and putting a shield together for it so hope to have some updates for you this weekend. In brighter news, my stupidly long experiment is coming to an end on friday so I am looking forward to having more energy for the hobby and building up a stock of posts. This is important as I am off to Italy with work for a week at the end of May!

Peace out,

Rob
