More Legion of the Damned!

Hey all,

Happy new Year to you all! I hope you all had a good one and you're now completely focused on the important things in life such as what new army you are going to collect ;) oh and family friends etc etc.... I've been mostly working on the Ravenwing and sorting out my general life but I have found some time to do a bit of work on the Damned with some serious time given over to their flames. I really struggle with this kind of small detail layering work so its never going to be as good as the big painting boys!

That said I am very pleased with how its come out. I'll pop a few before pictures so you can get a better idea of the changes :)

BEFORE:

AFTER:

Let me know what you think anyway :) these four should be done pretty soon aside from the bases and then I can move on to the sergeant and the chap with the converted standard as you'll see when I get some pictures of them up! I've go some Heresy work coming up as well on my Solar Auxilia, but for the most part expect January to be working on getting the Assassins and Dark Angels done.

I will have some posts coming up as well asking about formats of reviews and the like so I will be looking for all your opinions :) Oh and my gaming set up at home is nearly ready for show and tell! Here's a teaser...

Peace out,

Rob

The Legion of the Damned Return!

Hey all,

Whilst I've been getting settled in my new place I didn't want to work on commission models, as I just wanted to get into a nice groove before throwing my weight behind getting the Dark Angels and Assassins finished (hopefully both by January end!).

And so after finding them in a pile of detritus on my old desk I dusted off the Legion of the Damned and set to work on getting some more of them painted up! This comes at a nice time as despite having no other 40k miniatures to speak of, I was bought Codex: Imperial Agents for Christmas, and whilst some people have a dim view of it, as a fluff junky I love it! It certainly doesn't do for competitive 40k at all but I think I'll enjoy fiddling around with it and making a fluffy army with bits and bobs from all over the place, these guys included :).

The metals and bone are largely done on these chaps, as is the wax of the purity seals. However the black, flames and eyes all still need doing along with a bit of post hoc drilling (still at the old place!) and some weathering too for the melta. I've gone off these bases and so once all 10 are completed they will be getting (very carefully) clipped off and put on to some resin cast bases.

Peace out,

Rob

Legion of the Damned - 4 Down and 6 To Go!

Afternoon,

Another minor update on my burgeoning Legion of the Damned Squad. Struggling for cosnistency with the flames and will likely go over all of them when I am done with the squad to try and even them all out. Touching up the black around them shouldn't be a problem.

Only as I was uploading this post did I remember that Greggles suggested a grey back ground for these guys DOH! Next time I will remember!

Peace out,

Rob

Legion of the Damned - More WIP

Hey all,

Just some more work on my Legion of the Damned Squad. I'm painting two at a time now to get them done a bit quicker. Really looking forward to having them ready and getting them on the table! I've photographed them with the two done ones just for comparison.

peace out,

Legion of the Damned - Then there were TWO

Hey folksy folk,

So I've been pottering on with several projects and the Legion of the Damned are a really nice one to do in the middle of other projects as paint and washes dry or I'm waiting for glue to set. Over the weekend I managed to get my second Legionary done and I am pretty happy with how he turned out, I think they will look pretty good when the whole 10 are painted and based as a group, even if they aren't "stunning" as individual models.

Looking at the close up pictures as I post this I have a few things to correct, like yellow on the black section of the leg and the silver highlights on the shoulder pad trim as well as touch up the flame transitions, but nothing major I am going to revise.

Peace out,

Rob

Imperial Knight and Legion of the Damned - Update

What do?

So last night I was busy putting together more of my knight as I wanted to use it in a 3000 point game I am playing tonight. I don't like playing with unpainted models but this will be the only one and its so my opponent can use his falchion glaive tank guilt free :P!! I am surprised how well the shield has turned out so far, I am very poor at scratchbuilding stuff so this is something of a triumph for me. I know it won't be everyone's cup of tea (other caffeinated drinks are available), but the slab look was what I was going for to be honest.

The shield isn't done nor is it the last thing I am modding on this bastard. I also plan to shoulder mount the weapon so that I can swap out any of the main guns for the paladin, errant and styrix knight. I will be using it as a Stryix tonight. I don't plan to add a mask to the face, I really like the exposed bionics look and it matches my fluff that the whole mechanicum army has been commandeered by Anacharis Scoria from the production stages of a forgeworld.

I also did a few very minor and subtle changes to my legion of the damned test model. Primarily I used dry brush blending to try and enhance the flame effects as was suggested by many of you. I'm now happy personally with how he looks so I will be carrying this forward on to the remaining 9!

Tune in tomorrow for... something... or nothing. I haven't really decided yet... Ooooooh tension. I'm writing this at 5.30AM I am VERY TIRED.

Peace out,

Rob

Legion of the Damned - Updated Test Model

Early evening evil doers,

Just a quick update on earlier, I decided to heed some advice and revert the head back to black. I like keeping the bone very dirty, I don't really go in for clean lighter, worn bone. But the head is black now, I haven't re-done the very minor OLS from the eyes as wasn't sure if that would improve the model or messy the face?

Thoughts?

Peace out,

Rob
