Shattered Legion of Istvaan III - In Defence of the Emperor

Good afternoon all,

Today I've got shots of my entire 2000 point shattered legion collected together! This marks my second fully complete army for 30k, the first being the Solar Auxilia. The Auxilia will be getting a photo shoot at some point in the near(ish) future as well. I'm well on my way to building Belisarius Cawl to represent Anacharis Scoria, so my mechanicum should soon be complete as well (though I do have a small purchase in mind for them). 

I built this force to represent the coalition of loyalist Emperor's Children, Sons of Horus and World Eaters in the aftermath of the virus bombing of Istvaan III. Whilst there were Deathguard on the planet as well, they were distinctly separated from the other three legions and so didn't warrant inclusion. 

Saul Tarvitz, as in the novel, is the overall leader and so he is my Warlord for the army. Garviel Loken has a command squad to represent the squad he dropped in with, as well as a Tarik Torgaddon model to fulfill the two of them marching off to meet Abaddon and Aximand in a show down. Rylanor the Unyielding fills the the final special character slot having taking Saul's place in the original landing force. Other than that, I stuck to no vehicles as by the end of their resistance they would have been perilously low on fuel etc so it didn't feel right.

I hope it gives off the fluffy feel that I intended it too :) by far Garviel Loken is my favourite model, but then I did devote a lot more time to him! I hope to enter him into some painting competitions over the coming year, I'm keen to get him into a Golden Demon competition and see if I can get him to the photo stage!!

Shattered Legion - World Eaters Centurion - Complete

Happy Easter Sunday (or you know, just Sunday),

More gribbly gory goodness today with the World Eaters Centurion for my shattered legion. He actually has two alternate weapons of a thunder hammer and power axe, but I haven't blood splattered them yet, but I'll put up some pictures of them at a later date. This gives him some flexibility in terms of load out with the magnetised arms. He spent his first game mostly running away mind you....

Expect more shattered legion over the next couple of days as well :)

Sons of Horus - Tarik Torgaddon Conversion

Hello again today,

For my shattered legion force, I will have Garviel Loken fulfilling my HQ slot for the Sons of Horus. However, as I wanted this to be a very fluffy force, I decided to give Loken a command Squad so that I could use that opportunity to convert up a Tarik Torgaddon model that looks suitably impressive.

I think that for both the Sons of Horus and the World Eaters, I might expand my small sections into 1000 point armies or maybe 1500, so that I can field them in small scale games or Zone Mortalis games (See previous post today!). In these games I would probably field Tarik as a centurion to give him the appropriate buffs and statline. But here he is just a command squad member. 

I had a little trouble deciding on his loadout, with a variety of weapons mentioned in multiple sources, some said that he occasionally favoured a long hafted axe, so I thought that would look coolest!

Not the greatest conversion, but I think he'll do :)

World Eater Jetbikes - Horus Heresy

How-diddly-do bloggerinos?

Work on the shattered legion continues at pace! These World Eaters are nearly complete, short of blood splatter and some work on an engine glow, maybe, not sure on that one. The bases are all ready, I just need to buy some clear stems to go on them for skimmery goodness! The sergeant has a power fist, for extra smash face happy times too. 

With these guys nearly done, I have the Sons of Horus plasma cannon squad to polish off and then I just have a 5 man Sons of Horus command squad to paint and yes, I'm sure many of you guessed it, the big survivable bastard that is Garviel Loken is coming. 

Loken won't be getting the rough paint job that everyone else is getting, he will probably be painted over a 2 day period as my only concern. He's never going to be Golden Demon standard, but I will be aiming for my best on him and taking an appropriate amount of time to do so. 

And with that, I will have 2500 points of Shattered Legion, though having gone through my list, I think I will probably drop and sell off the Emperor's Children Palatine blades. They just don't work all that thematically and including them AND getting to 2500 means a chunk of upgrades. So overall the force will work better at 2000 points and be more fun, fluffy and a tiny bit more competitive as well.

Though against any slightly powerful list these guys will get smoked. But I didn't build them for that! I was just really captivated by the Audiobook rendition of Istvann III and I had to build a force for it.

World Eater Rampagers - Finished and Bloody

Good day to thee,

A little adjustment here and there and then just had to stick them on their bases and cover them in gore! I enjoy splattering blood over miniatures a bit much, but I'm only going crazy on the World Eaters given it is sort of their modus operandi! I'e got 3 World Eater jetbikes in the works and I'm reasonably happy with how the white, blue and brass have come out on these guys so I'm pretty set with the scheme.

I've also got a World Eaters Centurion to build up as well, so I'm thinking of how to have fun with that and make him very "hands on" so to speak!

So soon I should have a group shot on my table of the whole shattered legion force! I'll also be taking pictures of the full Solar Auxilia force and when I get Belisarius Cawl painted up as my Anacharis Scoria then I'll be taking pictures of them too. That'll be a total of 9,250 points of Horus Heresy goodness complete!

Sons of Horus Heavy Weapons Team - WIP

Hey y'all!

Been working on my shattered legion again today, should have the entire 2500 points complete by mid-April I expect, which should give me some time to give over attention to my Imperial Militia force! These guys aren't complete but also aren't far off it. I've got a command squad of Sons of Horus Legionaries to build and paint as well that will get more attention than these guys, plus the big dude himself (you know who I mean...) that will get an entire weekend dedicated to him methinks!

On top of this I also have 3 world eater jetbikes that are on my desk currently to paint and that will be the whole army done then! Oh scratch that, I have to build a World Eater Centurion as well so I can take the Sons, Emps Children and World Eaters in one force!

I'm in a bit of a rush today, hence the lower quality pictures, but once they are totally complete you'll get some better ones I promise :)
