Imperial Knight and Legion of the Damned - Update

What do?

So last night I was busy putting together more of my knight as I wanted to use it in a 3000 point game I am playing tonight. I don't like playing with unpainted models but this will be the only one and its so my opponent can use his falchion glaive tank guilt free :P!! I am surprised how well the shield has turned out so far, I am very poor at scratchbuilding stuff so this is something of a triumph for me. I know it won't be everyone's cup of tea (other caffeinated drinks are available), but the slab look was what I was going for to be honest.

The shield isn't done nor is it the last thing I am modding on this bastard. I also plan to shoulder mount the weapon so that I can swap out any of the main guns for the paladin, errant and styrix knight. I will be using it as a Stryix tonight. I don't plan to add a mask to the face, I really like the exposed bionics look and it matches my fluff that the whole mechanicum army has been commandeered by Anacharis Scoria from the production stages of a forgeworld.

I also did a few very minor and subtle changes to my legion of the damned test model. Primarily I used dry brush blending to try and enhance the flame effects as was suggested by many of you. I'm now happy personally with how he looks so I will be carrying this forward on to the remaining 9!

Tune in tomorrow for... something... or nothing. I haven't really decided yet... Ooooooh tension. I'm writing this at 5.30AM I am VERY TIRED.

Peace out,

Rob

  2. Nice work the shield Rob, really starting to come together there. I will have to make some changes to my knight to not match you.

Good call on the LoTD, pops nicely now. Glad to see the base coming along as well.

    1. I am looking forward to seeing how yours turns out! Scratchbuild should give you a lot more freedom and I would bet you're better at the building than I am!

  3. I love the shield, it looks cool.

I do have a request though. You've said you're painting this up to match your yellow mechanicum. Personally I noticed a striking resemblance with the head of the Knight kit to a certain yellow transformer we may be familiar with. We may also be familiar with the 'Queen Bee' knight that got ported into the freedblade game (if you want to see details of how that all happened, follow the link on my blog to the Golden D6, one of the issues has a full breakdown of the construction/painting).

Please, please, please call your knight 'Bumblebee'!

I will be referring to it as that regardless...

    2. Hey there. Thanks for the shout out! I just happened across this post from a Google search. I'm the guy who made the Queen Bee, so if you have any questions, feel free to hit me up. Check out TibbsForge.com and look for the Kniht tab in the navigation to read through a bunch of posts. The GD6 article was all taken from there. Looks like you'be got a handle on things anyway, but painting this kit can also be quite a task. Good luck!

  4. I like how the Sword and Shield are coming along. A shoulder-mounted gun is a cool idea, too, I should think about that for the Chaos Knight I've got waiting to convert.

Definitely like the flames better like that. The more even shading from dark red through yellow does work better for me there.

    1. I'm struggling with the construction of the shoulder mount at the moment, trying to make it blend well with the shoulder as is and make the gun swappable if possible so I can flit between the errant and paladin

  5. Beautiful work on both projects, man! That knight build is excellent, and I really dig the Damned Legionnaire.
