Blog Birthday Giveaway 2 - Its Tartaros Time!

Hey gang!

Tomorrow marks the 2nd Birthday of 30Kplus40K and I'll have some numbers up tomorrow talking about the journey that has taken me here, but for today I just wanted to let you know about a giveaway to mark the occasion :)

I have THREE sets of (plastic) Tartaros pattern terminator armour from the Burning of Prospero set to give away, so that everyone can join in on the Heresy train (it has noooo brakes).

All you have to do to enter is follow the blog either through blogger or google plus AND comment below about which legion you'd paint them termies up as and why, if you think you've got an argument for why they are the best legion then test it in the realm of public angst ;)

On midnight Friday 7th April (GMT) the comments will close and I'll announce the winners on Saturday! You can enter from anywhere in the world so don't worry about being in New Zealand or the USA or anywhere else :)

Go, go, go!

St Andrews Wargaming (Now based in Newcastle!)

On a side not, Mike from StandWargaming has his blog birthday coming up as well and he is giving away a WHOLE ARMY! This time instead of a battle demi-company as he did for his blogs first birthday he is giving away a Genestealer Cult army, codex and all!

Mike is a stand up guy, a great player, and his blog is absolutely fantastic, so click on the link and show your support and maybe win an army in the bargain too :)

Peace out,

Rob

  1. Hmm, tricky one that Rob! Mainly because I'd probably paint them up in Dusk Knight colours.

Still, if you were to force me to pick one of the original 18 legions, then I would of course have to say the Emperor's Children! Tartaros armour was practically built to take advantage of the 3rd Legion's way of war, and their initiative boosts in combat, being able to strike at a higher initiative and still sweep your enemies is the raison d'etre of the EC terminator (plus you know they'd look delicious in purple!)

  2. Easy...Emperor Children (i'm just starting a loyal army)
The reason? I love purple and gold ;) and fulgrim still my favourite primarch, i like his research of perfection ;)

    1. Loyal... loves fulgrim... hmmm something doesn't add up!?

    2. There's kind of a delicious moment for a very short while in there that both statements can be true. I think in some ways Fulgrim's fall from grace is even more tragic than that of Horus.

  3. Got to go for White Scars, as white power armour is just so easy to paint ;)

Thanks for the shout out Rob!

  4. Nice one! id paint them up to join my Alpha legion force, just as they are depicted in the wolf king art when 100 of them board Russe's flagship and go in for the kill! I'd also paint the sergeant totally plain with a glowing green power sword to match the description of Alpharius hidden in one of the terminator squads!

Been working on my airbrush technique with metallic blue and green paints ( mr hobby if any one wants to know they are mainly used for gundam wing)

    Hydra Dominatus brothers!

  5. Happy two year anniversary!

I'd paint the Terminators up in Luna Wolves colours. They are the original Wolves (none of Russ's boys around here!), for the Emperor and Horus. Lupercal!

  6. Happy blog birthday, man! I've really enjoyed reading your posts and look forward to many more years of goodness in the future.

Hmm, more fodder for Sekhmet terminators in my mind - Can you ever have too many terminators?

Keep up the great work, bud!

  7. I would paint them up like the Sons of Barbarus, the Death Guard. The flat plates would allow great weathering, while in game they would allow me to sweep some of the large tactical squads instead of being stuck in a mass of bodies.

    For the 14th!

    1. That was my original intent! Good choice sir!

  8. I have been leaning between Emperor's Children or Ultramarines for a long time but recently I decided to abandon both in favor of Dark Angels. I am going to paint them with a scheme straight out of the Rogue Trader book, black armour with red markings including a red stripe down the helemt. Also I can use them in 40k as Fallen which also appeals to me a lot.

    1. Loyalist or traitor... hmm I'll pick an ambiguous legion instead ;)

  9. Space Wolves, because....
Also, I've had a Wolves army since i started the hobby in 1992 so it'd be rude not to have them in Heresy.

  10. Alpha Legion - because two tone green/blue paint in the 31st melenium is just 'fabulous'!

(My Alpha Legion often feel fabulous)

  11. Rob, great giveaway... obviously I'd paint mine as Relictors! The best Chapter, fighting Chaos with Chaos, misunderstood, honestly still loyal, don't listen to the Inquisition...

  12. Count me in!

Who would I paint them as... I have to say Imperial Fists, with a little 30k/40k crossover (so I could use them as both), at let's face it, I pretty much only know how to paint yellow! Of course, I could use them to try another legion, in with case, I'd quite like to try my hand at Alpha Legion.

    1. I think Tartaros works really well with yellow

  13. And happy birthday Rob's blog!

  14. Gotta be Alpha Legion. They're the only Legion that always got all the cool new stuff. One of only two Legions with Banestrike ammo in regular use. One of only two Legions with Mk6 Armour in regular use. And that's not even getting into their ability to use literally any non-Character Legion-specific Unit. Of course they're going to have access to Tartaros Terminator Armour. They probably had some before most of the other Legions even knew the pattern was in development!

    1. Yes, just so happen to have bolt round specially designed to pierce power armour.... one of my favourite legions and the books are incredible in showing their true motivation

  15. I can't believe there is even an argument or discussion about this!!! The greatest legion of them all is the Space Wolves. Mavericks, violent yet noble, oath takers, story tellers, the emperors executioners

  16. Happy birthday for tomorrow Rob's blog!
Five tataros have so many possibilities! If I had to pick a legion, I'd go with the stoic IVth, I like hazard stripes and weathering silver-- maybe the VIIth, as they're my chapter's primogenitors, or maybe the XIVth...
But I could use them with sigmarine bitz for my BA successor project, have them on hand for a possible TS astartes project or for future commissions, and they come with my FAVORITE storm bolters and heavy flamer!

  17. Happy Birthday!!! I can remember when your blog was just a baby and we were talking about making Dark Angels even darker :-) I would use these guys to kickstart a 30k Dark Angels army (such a slippery slope!). They could double as a 40k Fallen unit as well. Why would I choose Dark Angels? I can't believe you asked that question. Report to cell block R, Interrogator Sapphon will guide you on your path to the truth.

  18. Cheers Rob and congrats to your blogs 2nd birthday. :-)
I still can remember, that I used to mix up your blog with Michaels St.Andrews in the beginning, as all I managed to realize was, that it was a new blog and you two started so close to each other. :-D
Keep up the great work, really enjoy your articles!

As to the Legion, I'd go for the Night Lords.
Before discovering Night Lords for myself, I was all into Tzeentch and the Thousand Sons.
But in the codex from 2002 (at least that is the copyright date) there was a little article about them and a picture of them with some captives/slaves that hooked me up.
I mean, they used to be evil, before any of the other Traitor Legions even knew how to spell evil.
They didn't join Chaos, but Chaos joined them!
Also they never cared about the gods or some agenda to overthrow the Emperor or so.
They are pure Evil, with a capital E!
Also there are the books by ADB about the Night Lords, which are to me, the best novels in the W40k universe.

    Cheers,
    Hendrik

    1. Night Lords are one of my first legion loves! I love that they aren't chaos marines really, but just traitor marines. I think Konrad has a really sad story as well.

  20. Happy birthday to the blog and its rightly proud father, well played. I do like coming back for updates.

I would be heavily tempted to turn them into bodyguards for Horus himself, his personal elite in the Sons of Horus. Outfitted with the latest armour and able to keep up with the Warmaster.

  21. Congrats on the milestone.

While my collection says more Ultras, I think I'd do Fists to have a crack at doing yellow.

  22. Well, I am just trying to get into the 40K universe so I really don't know how I would paint them. Trying to learn all I can is what brought me to your blog. I turn 50 on Thursday and on Friday, I plan on making my first 40K purchase. Just not 100% sure which direction I am going yet.

  25. I am currently building a 30k Ultramarines force but the large spaces on these models really beg to be inscribed with all kinds of heretical text for the Word Bearers

  26. I was actually thinking about starting a Death Guard Army. I've already got a kitbashed Mortarion and the MK 3 suits from the Prospero set are perfect for the rank n file.

  27. Hey Rob, Happy Blogiversary!

As for what legion, my cousin's Emperor's Children. She's just coming out of the hospital after getting her appendix removed, and she's sad she had to miss the varsity championships. Her family is on the lower side of the middle class, and can't afford forge world resin. Everything in her army was part of my Raven Guard, stripped and re-painted.
