Scyllax ahoy! Domitars and Magos Dominus Based

Hey web-mateys,

I recently purchased some Scyllax from a trading group on facebook for a very decent price, however they appear to have been posted by someone who has no idea about packaging miniatures and a lot of the very delicate arms have snapped off. Much anger and blue air occurred... However they should fix up nicely, plus I have to remove them from their bases anyway so I can make them match the rest. Here's some pictures as I got them:

In better news however I had a really fun evening putting the Domitar and Magos Dominus bases together, really enjoyed making a squished PDF trooper! I painted him a dull blue to try and get that across compared to more standard IG colours. Very pleased overall, even had a go at making intestines! These guys are all complete now :)

I want to take the Scyllax to Double Trouble run my Alex at From the Fang so they will be top priority this weekend to get them undercoated and the seraphim sepia layers down at least. Whilst I'm on that I will also do the Vorax as it saves time doing all the yellow at once. Once they are complete I will build my Homonculex conversion from my spare Domitar and also get on with that I think. The only Mechanicum unit I have any plans to do in the near future is my Imperial Knight and that will be a slow burn project, though I have lots of grand (and therefore unachievable) ideas for it!

After that... Alpha Legion...

Peace out,

Rob

Mechanicum Madness - Magos and Domitars Complete

Hi gang,

Today has been pleasantly productive in the last few hours. I was up at 5am and then at work till 10am but getting home at 10.30 I started to paint a Magos that had previously only be washed with sepia, and 3 hours later he is done! In the drying times for the Magos I also finished off the Domitars that I showed you yesterday, they just needed blood effect cabling and blue glow effect adding to their graviton hammers. Super pleased with how they have turned out and the Magos isn't too bad considering he was rescued from a box I had forgotten about and kitbashed with a 3rd edition incubus weapon...

Anyway pictures and feel free to give thoughts :)

The Magos will just be my cheap backfield magos to extend cortex controller range and repair my Krios Tanks with his battlesmith rule.

Coming up for the Mechanicum I have a unit of Scyllax that I got from heresy trading on facebook which was a nice bargain. I also have the converted Vorax and I have a third Domitar to convert into the Homonculex that follows Anacharis Scoria. And finally I have the Imperial Knight I purchased the other day.

Expect the first 3 to arrive pretty soon and the Knight to take a lot lot longer! I have really enjoyed painting this army and I only ordered the first batch from eBay on the 18th of January! It seems a life time ago, but progress has been pretty quick which is very pleasant.

Peace out,

Rob

Krios Venators - 90% Completed

How do all,

So I've been busying myself with getting more of my mechanicum painted recently, I'm still really enjoying painting these guys. Despite the same painting scheme the models are so varied that its a fresh challenge for each one that keeps me interested, which is in stark contrast to the dirge that the Death Company became towards the end.

So here are some pictures of my nearly finished Venators. The drivers are still on their sprues as the cockpit is accessible even when built so it won't be a hassle to put them in later. There are also a few shots of all the components before assembly. The kit is lovely but if you put it together completely before painting you would really struggle to reach a lot of pieces so I thoroughly recommend that you paint everything separately then assemble.

Here are also a few pics of my Domitars. Also mostly done but the bases need a lot of work on these guys.

Finally, does anyone know a good place to find high quality pictures of battle field background for 30/40k? I need to print one out as a background image for my army pictures that I am going to be taking. I want to make them a bit more cinematic and I've seen these kind of pictures used as back drops for battle reports on youtube, but I'm not sure where I would find more 30/40k specific ones that don't have miniatures in already.

Any pointers would be brilliant :)

Peace out,

Rob

Vorax Conversion and Painting begins on the Domitar and Venators

How do all,

So today I've got a little showcase of the Mechanicum that I am working on. I'm aiming to batch paint these much like the previous Thallax/Castellax/Thanatar I have painted. I also have my converted Vorax to show you. I'm pretty pleased with this conversion to be honest, its cobbled together out of sooo many different parts that its really felt like a conversion than just modding bits and bobs here or there. I don't like the original Vorax because they are just a bit too bug looking for me, the head really throws me off sadly.

I'm not the greatest converter so please be gentle ;) here's the Vorax!

And here we have the rest of my undercoated models that are ready for layers of seraphim sepia as well as areas that have little to know yellow on them, so I have just jumped in with base coating the metallics and giving the black areas a dry brush of dark reaper.

Later today I hope to get the first couple of layers of yellow on them and by the end of the weekend I hope to have the yellow finished and start layering the metallics on the Domitars, having hopefully finished layering the Krios Tanks.

Tomorrow I will be doing a review of the Krios Battle Tanks and on Sunday I will be doing the first in a series about the Sons of Horus, unless time becomes limited.

Peace out,

Rob
