30k Alpha Legion Leviathan Dreadnought - 90% Complete

Hey amigos,

Not a great deal of update recently on my actual hobby progress because, well, I haven't done much! A combination of the heat and being busy at work has kicked any proper progress to the wayside a lot. So all I've done since I last updated was work in my Leviathan as well as my Malcador Infernus. Unfortunately the scheme and colours I've gone for with the Malcador suck up a lot of time due to the many plates it has that I want to be level when applying a wash, so lots of balancing, washing and leaving to dry before flipping and repeating.

Anyway enough jabber, you've seen progress on the big guy above, more of him below :)

Peace out,

Rob

30k Alpha Legion: Dreadnought Drop Pod

Hey everyone,

So I have been busying myself behind the scenes despite few painting updates of late. I now have all of my infantry painted for my planned 1850 points force of Alpha Legion! But I'm waiting to set them up for some properly decent photos before I show you the finished bunch. Today instead we have my work on my dreadnought drop pod.

As you'll not doubt be aware I am going for a very battle worn look on these guys so a drop pod, blistering through the atmosphere as they do, was always going to be a good place to go to town with beating the shit out of a model. Here are the fruits of my labour so far!

Still a bit to do, but on the home stretch right now. I've no doubt I could have done some things better but overall I'm happy with how it is pulling together. I had a real crisis of faith half way through when I thought it looked like a dog turd cooking in the summer sun, but those extra layers as you build to the end has started to pull it together as a piece.

Thoughts and help are, as always, welcome :)

Peace out,

Rob

30k Alpha Legion - 5 More Painted and basing decisions...

Happy weekend to you,

So I have really been pushing myself to get all of my Alpha Legion Infantry painted up quickly so I can at least field the force partly painted and then this should allow me to take some time over the vehicles whilst doing infantry from other projects (legion of the damned) on the side in between drying phases which with washes in particular always take ages on vehicles.

Today I've got another 5 done to show you. This leaves just 3 more regular infantry to do and then I can start on painting Autilon Skorr who is my HQ for the force at 1850 or lower points levels.  After that I can paint Armillus Dynat who will be HQ in points levels above that. I'm really looking forward to Alpharius being sculpted by FW but I'm not holding my breath!

Pictures!

These are my final infantry to paint:

And these are 5 models left after them!

So you guys were pretty unanimous on suggesting a red planet base for these guys and that's what I have decided to go with! Though I am obviously going to add extra tidbits to the bases, the ones below are the bases I've decided to go with. They are pretty cheap with all the bases I need plus many spares costing me around the £30 mark so pretty pleased! I'll be ordering these in the coming weeks so hoping to get them started mid July or so.

I've also decided to invest in alternative flying stems as the GW ones give me no confidence with the heavier resin flyer, especially the Fire Raptors. So these should do the trick nicely as well.

Hopefully that has whetted your appetite on these guys for now and more should be incoming next week! If I can get all the infantry painted by July that will make me a happy man and mean I've painted the 22 infantry in about 21 days so just over 1 a day! As always I am sure I would have made a better job if painstakingly painted them like other people do, but I am always in a rush to play with new toys!!!

Peace out,

Rob

30k Alpha Legion Squad No.2 - Painted

Hi Guys and Gals,

What is up! Just another quick update on my second Legion Veteran Squad for my 30k Alpha Legion!

Couldn't clean my lense effectively at all, but did use a timer and stand and tried to tweak the pictures a little.

Peace out,

Rob

30k Alpha Legion - Quick-fire Update

Afternoon all,

Here's a quick update on the 5 models I showed you earlier today. I will get round to comments later tonight! As pointed out by Nick these have a distinct Son's of Horus vibe about them as well. Believe it or not that was accidentally deliberate. Accidental in the sense I wasn't originally intending it, but when this colour popped up on my test model I loved the idea of having my Alpha Legion army looking a little like another legion. I have always set out to deliberately have no iconography on this army as I just see Alpha Legion as being able to easily pass themselves off as another legion and wouldn't outright identify themselves in the field with a big insignia on their chest.

But I have a very specific ideal in mind with the Alpha Legion so I'm passing no judgement on other aesthetics! Anyway I went with the darker green look to have that ambiguity.

Pictures!

Thoughts on the scheme and the quality of painting are most welcome with the usual etiquette rules.

Peace out,

Rob
