Vampire Lord - Practising Painting

Fancy meeting you here!

Oh so long since my last post. Forgive me for I have sinned. Prioritising real life always makes me resent not being able to hobby for a living... Anyway I have now submitted my PhD and I am awaiting my viva on Friday the 16th of November. However, in other good news I am also fairly certain I will be moving to Nottingham for a post doc in the new year and so be right by the hobby mecca!

Anyway, enough of that. I have been trying out other painting techniques in my spare time (as well as painting for Winters Seo) on spar miniatures I have lying around. So here we are with my Vampire Lord. I'm thinking of making him into a diorama.

Thoughts my friends?

Peace out,

Rob

The Sons of Wrath - Primaris Marines!

Hello again,

Twice in a week, oh boy I'm on fire! One of the main things I have been painting for my personal use in my absentee period has been my Primaris Space marines. I've been trying out a very different look to my usual painting style and so these have taken much longer than usual to get up to any sort of level for using on the battlefield.

Today I'm just going to show you some of the Intercessors and Hellblasters in their current state. Aside from needing to touch up various points of the models in order to smooth the colours out, I need to apply, chapter, squad and rank marking as well as apply some minor battle damage. So not a lot!!!

The schemes for the sergeants will be the inverse of this and then the HQ's and other individual elites will also have differing schemes of grey and orange. Here are a few snaps of Sergeants in early stages of painting:

That's all for today, but I hope it whets your appetite for this force. I'm hoping to have a whole 2000 points finished to at least the standard of the Intercessors at the start by the end of this month so they will at least be table top quality to play some games with.

Peace out,

Rob

Legion of the Damned - More WIP

Hey all,

Just some more work on my Legion of the Damned Squad. I'm painting two at a time now to get them done a bit quicker. Really looking forward to having them ready and getting them on the table! I've photographed them with the two done ones just for comparison.

peace out,

Rob

Scyllax Guardian-Automata - WIP

Hi guys and gals,

Just a quick update today on my Scyllax guardians. Lots of fiddly bits but fun enough so enjoy the pics and next time you see them they should be done :)

I'm particularly happy with how the yellow has come out on these guys so far, feels like it has a lot of nice depth to it.

peace out,

Rob

Imperial Knight and Legion of the Damned - Update

What do?

So last night I was busy putting together more of my knight as I wanted to use it in a 3000 point game I am playing tonight. I don't like playing with unpainted models but this will be the only one and its so my opponent can use his falchion glaive tank guilt free :P!! I am surprised how well the shield has turned out so far, I am very poor at scratchbuilding stuff so this is something of a triumph for me. I know it won't be everyone's cup of tea (other caffeinated drinks are available), but the slab look was what I was going for to be honest.

The shield isn't done nor is it the last thing I am modding on this bastard. I also plan to shoulder mount the weapon so that I can swap out any of the main guns for the paladin, errant and styrix knight. I will be using it as a Stryix tonight. I don't plan to add a mask to the face, I really like the exposed bionics look and it matches my fluff that the whole mechanicum army has been commandeered by Anacharis Scoria from the production stages of a forgeworld.

I also did a few very minor and subtle changes to my legion of the damned test model. Primarily I used dry brush blending to try and enhance the flame effects as was suggested by many of you. I'm now happy personally with how he looks so I will be carrying this forward on to the remaining 9!

Tune in tomorrow for... something... or nothing. I haven't really decided yet... Ooooooh tension. I'm writing this at 5.30AM I am VERY TIRED.

Peace out,

Rob

Imperial Knight in Forge World Fires - WIP Part 1

What is up my gang,

So having traded in my Magic the Gathering cards for both the Legion of the damned (more on them tomorrow) as well as half of the Imperial Knight Renegade boxed game, I have been soldiering on with both of these projects. Today I give you a few sneak (and poorly photographed) shots of how my Knight is coming along.

The knight is intended to be able to ally with any of my Imperial Faction armies, but mainly it will represent a Mechanicum Indentured Knight for my Legio Cybernetica Cohort. This means it will also be a yellow and black colour scheme. I am hoping it will scale up well to that size!

I have been very keen to make the knight unique to me and so grand plans for conversions have been afoot! Firstly I wanted to have both left and right hands for the Knight, so I set about converting a right handed thunder strike gauntlet and secondly, what fit knight doesn't have a sword and shield!? So they are needed too.... I haven't put any details down on how I achieved any of this as I can't imagine to many are interested? If you are I will detail how I did stuff :)

Left and right thunder strike gauntlets - I'm very pleased with these!

The right legs was compeltely separated at the knee to allow more flexibility in the movement.

The torso is of course magnetised on - Nick at The Burning Eye gave me a tip for that and he should be posting a guide to it soon enough so watch his blog :)

A close up of how far back the converted leg goes. I had to remove a cable attachment to get the desired flex but I am going to be adding my own cables anyway.

A final (over exposed) shot of how the stance generally looks. (The brown thing hanging in the back ground is my Jedi Robe)

I know the photography isn't great but I was in a bit of rush so you have my appologies! I like to think these type of posts are the exception these days! I am working on the right arm at the moment and putting a shield together for it so hope to have some updates for you this weekend. In brighter news, my stupidly long experiment is coming to an end on friday so I am looking forward to having more energy for the hobby and building up a stock of posts. This is important as I am off to Italy with work for a week at the end of May!

Peace out,

Rob
