Another quiet time for me, partly due to work commitments, but also my lovely girlfriend Serena is very unwell at the moment so I have ditched hobby time to be a full fledged nurse, mostly supplying cups of peppermint tea, but a nurse nonetheless!
That said, I haven't done much building or painting, but I thought I would just share with you my plans for an Ynnari army. Don't worry though! This will not be a mass spam of MSU to make the most of strength from Death, rather, 8th Edition has given me the tools to make the army I really wanted to make in 7th but wouldn't have been able too. Huzzah!
This army will eventually be made up as follows:
Vanguard Detachment
HQ - Yvraine
Elites - 5 x Wraithblades with Axes and shields
Elites - 5 x Wraithblades with Axes and shields
Elites - 5 x Wraithblades with Axes and shields
Dedicated Transport - Waveserpent with twin Bright Lance
Dedicated Transport - Waveserpent with twin Bright Lance
Dedicated Transport - Waveserpent with twin Bright Lance
Spearhead Detachment
HQ - Spiritseer (Enhance)
Heavy Support - Wraithlord with glaive, twin flamers, bright lance and star cannon
Heavy Support - Wraithlord with glaive, twin flamers, bright lance and star cannon
Heavy Support - Wraithlord with glaive, twin flamers, bright lance and star cannon
------------------------------------------
So a very small model count that totals just under 2000 points! I can up the points value by adding in the Yncarne and the Visarch if I so wish. Before I have the funds to purchase the Waveserpents I will be swapping them out for both of these characters as I have them and they are purty.
I LOVE the idea of Waveserpents zipping up the board with their advance moves, and popping bright lances at choice targets, before my Wraithblades get out and attempt to muller everything in sight. Yvraine and the Spiritseer on the other hand will hang back with the Wraithlords and advance slowly. Yvraine will allow one of them to shoot twice and the Spiritseer will allow re-rolls of 1 to hit. This should help mitigate their -1 to hit on the move.
Wraithlords are pretty sub-optimal in the general scheme of things, due to their degrading statline, but I just love the models and have really wanted to do an army of the dead for a very long time!
I'm hoping this will be quite a fun army to play with, as the Wraithblades zip up the field under covering fire and Strength from Death coming into play every now and then!
Peace out,
Rob
Lovely! I really dig the reds and blacks, really give it a sense of menace. Good stuff, man!
ReplyDeleteWell I feel like worshipping the god of the dead comes with that territory :P
DeleteLooks nasty Rob! The good news is that Wave Serpents are still as durable as they were in 7th. It took almost my entire army firing at one to bring it down!
ReplyDeleteI have seen a few bat reps where they have just kept on chugging! Not looking forward to painting them mind :P
DeleteReally like the look of this one. Low unit count should give first turn in most cases. Wave Serpents will make up for the distinct lack of speed. Also, it's hellafluffy.
ReplyDeleteI look forward to killing them!
You look forward to trying poxy Mon'keigh!
DeleteA fun little army idea that. Was is the fluff behind it?
ReplyDeleteLook forward to seeing the wraiths eith axes, rare that happened.
The fluff is a work in progress, but essentially its wraith that have woken from slumber without the need for a spiritseer, the scream of Ynnead garnering their strength in a call to war
DeleteArmy sounds awesome! Get it all done and photos please :) Avatar looks AMAZINGGGGGG!
ReplyDeleteCheers Greg, very proud of it :)
