For the God of the Dead - The Wraiths Will Rise

Hey gang,

Another quiet time for me, partly due to work commitments, but also my lovely girlfriend Serena is very unwell at the moment so I have ditched hobby time to be a full fledged nurse, mostly supplying cups of peppermint tea, but a nurse nonetheless!

That said, I haven't done much building or painting, but I thought I would just share with you my plans for an Ynnari army. Don't worry though! This will not be a mass spam of MSU to make the most of strength from Death, rather, 8th Edition has given me the tools to make the army I really wanted to make in 7th but wouldn't have been able too. Huzzah!

This army will eventually be made up as follows:

Vanguard Detachment

HQ - Yvraine

Elites - 5 x Wraithblades with Axes and shields
Elites - 5 x Wraithblades with Axes and shields
Elites - 5 x Wraithblades with Axes and shields

Dedicated Transport - Waveserpent with twin Bright Lance
Dedicated Transport - Waveserpent with twin Bright Lance
Dedicated Transport - Waveserpent with twin Bright Lance

Spearhead Detachment

HQ - Spiritseer (Enhance)

Heavy Support - Wraithlord with glaive, twin flamers, bright lance and star cannon
Heavy Support - Wraithlord with glaive, twin flamers, bright lance and star cannon
Heavy Support - Wraithlord with glaive, twin flamers, bright lance and star cannon

------------------------------------------

So a very small model count that totals just under 2000 points! I can up the points value by adding in the Yncarne and the Visarch if I so wish. Before I have the funds to purchase the Waveserpents I will be swapping them out for both of these characters as I have them and they are purty.

I LOVE the idea of Waveserpents zipping up the board with their advance moves, and popping bright lances at choice targets, before my Wraithblades get out and attempt to muller everything in sight. Yvraine and the Spiritseer on the other hand will hang back with the Wraithlords and advance slowly. Yvraine will allow one of them to shoot twice and the Spiritseer will allow re-rolls of 1 to hit. This should help mitigate their -1 to hit on the move.

Wraithlords are pretty sub-optimal in the general scheme of things, due to their degrading statline, but I just love the models and have really wanted to do an army of the dead for a very long time!

I'm hoping this will be quite a fun army to play with, as the Wraithblades zip up the field under covering fire and Strength from Death coming into play every now and then!

Peace out,

Rob

Eldar Wraithblade Paint Scheme - Proof of Concept

Hey all,

So as I mentione din yesterdays post, I had enough time between paints drying on the Night Lords that I manged to start a single Wraithblade to put together my proof of concept paint scheme! I also have white background pictures of the Yncarne below, so if you aren't interested in the Wraithblade you can just skip down :P

I wanted this entire army to be dark. I felt it befitted the rising legion of the dead, particularly when we are in the Grim Dark future of 40k! I also wanted the scheme to be relatively simplistic, so I have gone for the same deep metallic black that I used to painted the Yncarne's body and have just used the abundance of gems to provide points colours, then I went with a blend similar to the souls swirl of the Yncarne for the face plate and the cloth.

Don't mistake! I still have a LOT to do on this bugger. The axe needs all the gems picking out and splattering with blood, the axe handle needs some slight additional highlights and all the gems needs additional lines followed by a glaze. But overall I am pleased with where this is going.

For those that skipped straight down, here's the Yncarne you were wanting to see :)

I hope you all enjoyed the dirty eldar filth assaulting your eyeballs :)

Peace out,

Rob

The Avatar of Ynnead - The Yncarne

Hey all,

So I've finished this beast of a model! I'm not 100% happy with the hair, but then I do struggle with white. I spent a good chunk of time matching colour palettes to see if other hair colours would work, but I concluded they would either clash or get subsumed in the rest of the models darkness, so white it was.

Overall though, I'm very happy with how this turned out! I'm looking forward to putting together a small force of metallic black and burnt red styled Eldar. Don't worry however! Whilst the list will inevitably be middling to strong due to the inherent strength of the Eldar codex, you won't see me running wraithguard or scat packs. Wraithblades on the other hand...

Anyway, pictures!

Peace out,

Rob

The Avatar of Ynnead - A Primal Scream of Death and Rebirth

Hey gang,

So in between a lot of prep work on the Night Lords I have been putting time into a personal project which has recently been the Yncarne. Even if I never end up building the wraithblade army that I have running around my head (I cannot ever bring myself to bring ranged D weaponry even with a -1), I am just extremely glad to have had this model as a painting project. I am very thankful my lovely girlfriend bought me the box set!

I wanted to go for something much darker than the official scheme and make this look like a god of the dead that the Eldar will both follow and fear as the story indicates. I feel the official scheme makes the Yncarne seem to definitely friendly to my mind. And as my skills are just better suited to dark (scruffy) painting, that is the way I went...

There is so much I need to do to this model still!! There are a couple of small bits to add to the swirl that are currently awaiting primer, there are bits of glue that need painting over and just so much that needs blending together better. I don't think it is going to win any awards, but I am pretty happy with how close I have come to my original vision. I would say around 65% towards what I wanted, but with such a complicated model I am very VERY happy with that thus far.

Thoughts on a postcard :)

Peace out,

Rob

Building the Yncarne - It Begins

Hey all,

So recently, my lovely girlfriend bought me the Triumverate of Ynnead which has sparked my re-involvement in 40k and the probable development of an Ynnari army... The first step to this is building and painting the centrepiece itself, the Yncarne.

In between painting steps on the Night Lords I have going on, I treated myself to starting the build on this beast. This is the first of 3 major sub-assemblies that will be built and painted before being glued together, though there are several minor pieces that will be painted separately as well.

As you can see, this thing is incredibly detailed. I won't be following the paint scheme of GW but be going for something altogether darker in tone! I'm planning on getting the rest of the sub-assemblies built and undercoated this weekend with some work on this first section starting late next week should time allow!

Peace out,

Rob
