Dark Angels Devastator Squad Sergeant - Complete

Hello again,

After a bit of work, my Devastator squad sergeant is now complete! I have enjoyed playing around with the black armour on each of my squad sergeants I have painted so far. It give them a little bit of a unique look and personality within the army. I do think however that I am really enjoying the "slate" look that I have given this sergeant's armour. It makes it looks very faded and cold, like the heart of the faithful when confronted by the fallen!

And here he is with his squad of .... DEVASTATINGLY handsome marines ;) ah.. ahaha. ahahahahaha!!

I forgot to drill out the barrel of his combi-grav so I will do that eventually but I am too content at the moment to take blade to him again. I just have the drop pod for this squad to complete and then my aimed for Lion's Blade will be complete! However I'm really not feeling the bug to paint a vehicle at the moment so hopefully I'll crack on with that later in the week whilst I sweep up a few side projects. 

I am pleased with the pace of my painting on these guys but I really, really want to slow right down on my Alpha Legion. I know that I can paint better, but I think my desire for the army to be playable overtakes that and I don't apply myself to the level I think I can do. I said I was going to do it with these guys but hopefully I can keep my word with the Alpha legion!

4 x Dark Angel Converted Grav Cannon Devastators - Complete!

Good day to thee,

Here they are! I am pretty pleased with how they look both conversion and paint job :) though room for improvement on the conversion for the future I think. Plus more forethought on magnetising them to get them to fit better I think!

Thoughts? Sergeant is up next and then the drop pod for this unit to be fully done.

Converting a Xiphon Interceptor and grav cannon WIP

Hi everybody,

So I've been umming and ahhing about buying a flyer from forgeworld for some time now. The xiphon interceptor really interests me but I would want at least two of them as an escort for a larger aircraft like a fire raptor or a storm eagle.

Someone mentioned on google+ that they resemble battlestar galactica Vipers. After having a look at the 1/32 scale kits of the Viper I have purchased two of them for around £30 and intend to convert them into Xiphon interceptor counts as. As you can see below compared to the above picture they have more than a passing resemblance to the Xiphon:

My main plan for converting is to extend the wings to make them match the large Xiphon wings and add the twin linked lascannons and a rotary missile launcher. I will be painting the cockpit canopy as opaque to avoid converting the pilot as I am lazy...

These guys should arrive soon and I will do a little unboxing of them!

In terms of the flyer to be escorted I am now deciding between a fire raptor and a storm eagle. Currently I am leaning towards the fire raptor and having these guys as a dedicated reserve force to come on and support my Alpha legion ground troops.

Grav Cannon WIP

Following on from the bodies of my Devastators yesterday here is a quick WIP of the guns. These guys should be all done and completed tomorrow or wednesday and then I will move on to the drop pod and the sergeant!

Dark Angel Devastators/Veterans - WIP

Hi guys and gals,

After I posted my goals for the remainder of the year here I felt extremely energised and decided to get straight on with it (thus ignoring everything else I had already started in that post...gah!) and pulled my Grav cannon converted devastators on to my painting desk. Which is also my buildiing desk, my work desk and my bin apparently...

My Devastators are built from sternguard parts for the legs, torso and heads. This was because I had them lying around, AND because I decided to magnetise them fully, it means I can still take off the weapons and use them as veterans or a command squad if I so wish. So I will at some point magnetise and paint up some additional arms and backpacks for them to fulfil that role as I am quite happy with how they have turned out.

Anyway here are the bodies all finished and done:

Apologies for the poor pictures, I just couldn't get the light and the flash to work together on these guys. I have a new lamp coming at the end of this week though! Much like the rest of my Dark Angels, they are properly Dark, with a concession to variety in the red and cream cloth. 

I am currently priming the weapons and back pack array so I should have some WIP pictures of those guys tomorrow or wednesday. I am also going to prime my anvil industry models I am using for scouts and hope to put some work into them tomorrow as well!

Dark Angel Devastators with Converted Grav Cannons

Hello peoples,

Here's a quick shot of my Devastators with the converted Grav Cannons about their person. I ended up utilising the power lead from the plasma cannon to attach it to the back pack, though after I had fully committed to this it soon transpired to be a massive pain, as you may be able to tell from the dodgy cables. I am not a particularly skilled converter but I am not unhappy with the overall effect.

I also have something of a love hate relationship with magnets... As you can see the back pack and gun arms come all off in one piece. You'll also notice I used the sternguard body kit and legs for these guys. I thought it would look cool on Devastators and I think it really does. However it also actually gives me the option of using them as dark angel veterans if I want to provided I magnetise all the back pack and arm options, happy days!!

I still need to add the left shoulder pad to these guys but I'm still awaiting my order from wayland games, every time I order speciality items from them I swear its the last time I use them.
