3000 Points of Solar Auxilia - Overview and Farewell

Hey all,

Finally getting round to it, here is an overview of my full painted 3000 points of Solar Auxilia. I'm super happy with the army, in both its look and how it is to play. That I said I am currently in the process of selling the army. This is partly to clear space and partly to provide funds for life in general as well as future hobby purchases. I took a while deciding on which of my armies to sell, and the Solar Auxilia were pipped by the mechanicum and my Istvann force for a few reasons. One of the main ones being that both the mechanicum and astartes armies are quite heavily converted in a multitude of ways, compared to the standard nature of the Auxilia. Other than that it has to do with how fun they are to play and how much money they would yield plus overall likelihood to sell.

Anyways, here's a photo dump for you to look at :)

Rob

Game 3 vs Winters SEO - Coming Soon!

Hey gang,

So on Sunday I travelled to see Winters SEO for the third time and do battle with my Auxilia against his latest army - The Sons of Horus! It was, as usual, an absolutely cracking game with lots of laughter involved and delicious cheese and onion pastries. Mmmm.

The game should be out in a few weeks which I will link to once its up, but for now here are just a few pics of the battlefield and the armies, you should be able to make out my finished Stormblade hiding in the corner ;)

Hopefully that has whetted your appetite for madness and mayhem!

Peace out,

Rob

Return of the Malcador Infernus!

Hey all!

Finally! Some more heresy stuff for you people :) here we have the nearly complete main chassis of my second malcador infernus for my solar auxilia. I just need to do the green lights on this and then its done! The little tanker on the back still has a tonne of work to do on it but its making progress. My Stormblade tank as my Lord of War is also getting basecoats in between working on commission work, so the auxilia are slowly edging to completion :)

Peace out,

Rob

Solar Auxilia - The Final Push - Malcador Infernus WIP

Hey all,

So much the same with my mechanicum I don't have a lot left to do with my Solar Auxilia to complete them as an army. In fact between the two armies I only have 4 units to paint! However that 4 units includes 3 super heavies! I have yet to complete the build on the Imperial Knight for my mechanicum, but the Stormblade and Malcador Infernus have been primed and ready to go for some time, and over the weekend I managed to get the most laborious part of the Malcador finished - the red basecoat.

This is laborious because its achieved through a layer of bloodletter glaze followed by a layer of carrobourg crimson on top. Being as thin as they are, they respond very much to gravity, so each surface of the tank that needs the red has to be balanced flat for the glaze and allowed to completely dry before I add the crimson wash and allowed to completely dry, thus stopping pooling towards the bottom of the panels.

Lots of flipping the tank and leaving it alone, sometimes quite precariously balanced with blue tack support! Anyway, now this stage is done, when I have the time I should be able to (relatively) motor through the other base coats and finish it off. Then just the Stormblade to do which I am dreading!

Peace out,

Rob

Solar Auxilia Overview - A Video Review!

Hi gang,

With my recent trip to play Winters Seo I chatted to him for some advice about things I've been wanting to do for the blog for sometime. Winters being an old hand at the whole internet fame kerfuffle gave me a lot of advice and he very kindly offered to host a few of my videos on his most excellent channel!

So I recently recorded a video giving a brief over view of the Solar Auxilia as presented in the big red book. A few too many swear words, poor video editing and two mistakes but I think its a pretty good job overall!

Please bear in mind there seems to be a problem with audio for some people on phones and tablets! But it works fine on any PC it seems.

Enjoy and please go and visit and subscribe to Winters Seo's brilliant channel. It has brilliant narrative battle reports as well as painting guides and reviews :)

Peace out,

Rob

Strategos complete and Winters Seo Looms!

Hi Gang,

I finished my Strategos last night at the literal 11th hour just in time to be packed away and let me get a decent nights rest before my game with Winters Seo today! I'll obviously be linking the game up when Winters lets me know its live for you to watch :) But for now pictures! He has a few rough bits that I didn't do the very final stages too but he's more than fine for the table.

Peace out,

Rob

Solar Auxilia - Veletaris Finished and more progress!!

Hey gang,

So I have been beavering away as much as possible to get my solar Auxilia in ship shape for my game against Winters Seo and behold the fruits of my labour! Not only have I finished my squad of Volkite Veletaris but I also finished the Vexilarius to an acceptable standard. His banner needs more work till I am happy with it and before I apply any design to its front but its good enough to go for now. Its actually magnetised as well so it won't get wrecked in transportation!

I'm particularly happy with the glow on the lanterns of the banner, but I've annoyingly over done it a bit on the Veletaris lenses, but I'm not going to fuss too much. They weren't going to win me a Golden Demon any day soon anyway!!

I've got the Strategos and two Dracosans left to paint before Thursday morning to make up my 2000 point force! Below is their current state:

The tanks have a lot of ground to cover but its all quite simple and I've already done it a couple of times so theirs plenty of reference work to remind me of my previous decisions. The Strategos on the other hand has so much detail on him that its going to be a big push to get him finished and not look rushed. That said I'm fairly confident I can get this done though it might be a late night Wednesday job!

Peace out,

Rob
