Progress of Death Company

Hi readers,

A quick update today, I've just managed some progress on my death company. I thought I would get them done tonight but I always underestimate how long it takes to line highlight black. I mean my god that stuff never ends!

I also burnt my hand on the oven door like a damn fool which has hampered my painting somewhat... Tomorrow I should get the second half of my battle report from last week up for you guys to peruse, its got some cool pictures in it and it was on a really nice board as always so do please check it out :)

Pictures now!

Peace out,

Rob

Death in the Tunnels - Narrative Battle Report

Hello Readers,

This is the first half of my narrative game I had last Thursday. This comprised of two games running side by side but staggered for effect. The game which started first was a modified Kill team where we just used individual models and normal 40K rules to avoid anything too complicated as neither of us had experience with kill team and we were a bit time constrained to try something fully new out.

The game in the Tunnels would provide the winner (Last man standing) the opportunity to set off a large blast on the other table and give his army a boon in the fight above ground. This would be strength 9 AP2 large blast so potential for some serious havoc. BUT it would scatter twice and we were only playing on a 4 foot square board so hazardous!

The game in the tunnels was played using a special board the club has that we made up to 2 by 4 feet and the beginning deployment of our forces was as follows:

A really cool board! nice and modular with plenty of interesting hidey holes. We had a plethora of flamers between us, but I was numerically outnumbered and I didn't have any AP2 weaponry compared to his meganobz power klaw. Yikes!!! Lets see how we got on...

The first couple of turns consisted with both of us running headlong at each other with little thought other than getting stuck in and getting down and dirty! A few ranged attacks came to nought.

The prize fight between my Terminator Sergeant and his Meganob began in earnest!

 Some closer angles

And you can see my flamer backing him up through the tunnel door

The Orks advance cautiously with a flamer taking cover and burning a Crusader to crisp! My inability to pass a 3+ save would become something of a theme through both games... Its worth nothing that we house ruled that the wall of flame would only do 1 hit if you charged a flamer.

After seeing his subordinate become a charred lump of flesh the sword brother with twin lightning claws make a tactical withdrawal to the other side of the map to support the right flank and over run the Orks!

The sole crusader of the left flank is left to face two Burna Boyz!

Oh dear.. It doesn't look good!

In a moment of shame, the flamer wielding crusader is taken down by a shot from a grot! I can only imagine a ricochet bounced around the cavern before plunging into the marines flame canister setting him ablaze!

The left flank is now cleared by the burna boyz after a dramatic charge from the crusader ends in death...

One Ork boy is taken down by bolt pistol fire but I have only a crusader, the terminator sergeant and the Sword Brother left and he has almost all his Orky buggers marauding through the tunnels!

After 3 turns of the Meganob passing all his 2+ saves and being unable to land a blow, he finally rips the Sergeant limb from limb in frenzy of gore and saliva. The grot gets a second lucky shot and takes down the final crusader!

The sword brother, pursued by a boy, charges into a burna boy and takes him down in style!

In the next turn, the sword brother charged by the final burna boy and normal boy slaughters them both. But alas to no avail as the Meganobz shooter punches through his armour from the back and the Orks stand triumphant in the tunnels.

The menacing Meganob stands imposing in the tunnels halls as the begin to converge on a site to set of their bomb. Will it turn the tide of the battle above? Or will the battle already be won or lost for the greenskins?

Final Thoughts

I had an absolute blast with this little game and it was really a case of the odds going against me that turned the tide, I didn't pass a single 3+ save up until the Sword brother was in combat and the meganob passed about 6 2+ saves so he could have failed at least one!

It was nice and cinematic though and it was fun to fighting to have an effect on the battle on the other table which could really turn the tide with a good scatter (or no scatter rather!).

I hope you enjoyed this first half and turn in to see how the battle above ground went as the Black Templar forces attempt to defend a comms relay as they signal for help to surrounding imperial space to prevent this Ork incursion from becoming the end of this planet.

As always, comments welcome!

Peace out,

Rob

Age of Sigmar - Converted Sanguinary Guard + Death Company Progress

Hello readers,

Not as much done this weekend as I would like, but with a BBQ and a day of Dungeons and Dragons distracting me I can hardly complain! I also went to a friends birthday Sunday roast today so I only sat down to my hobby desk at 4pm. But Igot in a good 3 hours of work with a fair amount of progress made to report upon! I'm also going to spend the rest of the evening going through my battle report pictures from Thursday and start organising them into some sort of narrative.

Sigmarine Sanguinary Guard

These guys are going to end up in a squad of 5 with the standard bearer and power fist (because it was the only arm that really worked with it...) and 2 encarmine swords and 2 encarmine axes. Today I knocked together 1 each of the sword and axe bearers though they need a bit of clean up.

I'm not a particularly bad converter but neither am I particularly good! But I'm pretty pleased with how these guys turned out.

The "axe" is actually the force weapon from the Blood Angel Librarian sprue which I've been dying to use! The arms and other weapons are just taken from the regular terminator sprue that came in the shield of Baal deathstorm boxset. They work very well scale wise. I have had to weight down the bases though with a coin stuck underneath!

Death Company Progress

Finally I put all the layers of paint on my 5 Death Company required before washes and then washed the entire model in nuln oil and after that (though not pictured) I re-washed the ushabti bone bits with agrax earthshade to brown them.

I now need to do all the highlights and add all the blue for the jets and cabling and then do the brighter red for the gems and eyes.

I should get these done on wednesday in time for a post but then work will have to immediately start on the next 5! Once those are done I will move on to my Baal predator and hopefully get that done at the weekend!

I'm also hoping to get the first half of my battle report up on tuesday which will represent the battle in the tunnels to set of a distracting bomb! More info in that in my last post but I will reiterate that on tuesday.

Hope you guys enjoy and have a good one.

Peace out,

Rob

Finished basing and Re-starting efforts on the Death Company

Hello readers!

Been a very busy week for me so far so sadly very little hobby progress. Though I do have the third (and fourth sort of) of my narrative games tonight between my force of Black Templars and my opponents force of Orks. After this battle my Blood Angels will become the major players allowing me to use more of my collection, but also necessitating more of it being painted!!

The battle tonight will have 2 different parts to it. The first will be played on a 4x4 board with a central comms relay that will be surrounded by my Black Templars, soundly beaten in the last game on objectives they have had to run and summon reinforcements from allies in the sector. In order to ensure their allies timely arrival they must defend the comms relay for the entire game and hold it at the end.

The pursuing Orks, raging for more fighting after their victory will be coming on from any board edge which they choose and they must hold the relay at the end to delay the arrival of the Blood Angel allies, the closest in Imperial space, in the next two games.

This is going to be a small 750 points game so it should be quite frantic and bloody! I painted up my Templar Neophytes specifically for this game to give me some cheap bodies to throw around and shield the relay with. Plus it represents the dwindling numbers of the Templars and the Neophytes now make up a third of their force as they are whittled down by the aggression and insanity of the greenskins.

At the same time, on the other 2x4 bit of board we will have a special tunnel board set up which will represent an underground facility by the comms relay. We will be playing a pseudo kill team game here (we are ignoring specialist etc because its not something either of us have played and time is a premium so we want it simple) where 150 points of Orks will face off with 150 points of Templars and the victorious team will get the chance to set off some bombs underneath the relay which will hopefully aid their comrades above.

It promises to be a fun game! And because I now have my dedicated hobby camera I should be snapping away like a madman and have lots of pictures for battle reports  for you!

Finally, here is some WIP pictures of Death Company who have just had Khorne red added so far after a heavy drybrush of eshin grey.

And also some pictures of Raphen's Death Company and Lemartes who I have finally updated their bases with some slightly better pictures in general with my new camera!

Tune in on Sunday for hopefully the report from the tunnels game and more hobby progress too!

Peace out,

Rob

Death Company Storm Raven - finished

Hi again!

More productivity from me today but again a short blog post as I want to get some cleaning done around the house and then crack on with some hobby stuff this evening and further fight back the plastic tide.

I really struggle painting big flat panelled vehicles and so I tend to keep vehicles to a minimum overall, perhaps why I favour deep striking units or fast units in general. In my nearly 6000 points of space marines I have 1 landraider, 2 vindicators, a storm raven, a baal predator and 3 drop pods which I think is a pretty light AV count for that many points. Thoughts?

Anyway, that was basically a big preamble to me saying I'm a bit shit at it. I had a go at weathering and try to making this thing look mucky and oil smeared but I'm not terribly happy with the attempts, but I am happy enough with it and think that it won't stand out from my better painted infantry too much that it can go on the table. I am actually very happy with the base! Its a lone devastator from my Templar brethren taking refuge in a ruined bunker with an activated homing beacon which my Blood Angels have responded too and have come screaming to the rescue!!

It still needs a matt varnish (as do all my space marine models) but other than that and possibly any of your suggestions it is finished.

Pictures now.

I hope you like and will tune in later this week for some conversion work and maybe some more WIP painting!

Peace out,

Rob

Black Templar Neophytes - Finished

Hello readers!

After my recent ramblings were back to a good old honest hobby post. I've finished up the first 10 of my 20 neophytes that will make up my large crusade squads in my Black Templar army.

I have to admit that I am desperate to get this army done so it can sit pretty and be played with. With that in mind I haven't put the same effort into these as I have in my other recent endeavours such as all my Blood Angels models, so I have skipped painting a few details here and there. On the whole though I am pleased with how they have turned out and look forward to finishing the other 10 in the future.

The Templars are likely to take a back seat for a month or two though as the tournament I was going to take them too has been cancelled and postponed to next year, this is a real shame as I thought the rule set was excellent. If you want to read it, head over to "From the Fang" blogspot and search for fluffageddon. I encourage people to have an open mind and consider it for next year if you are in the UK.

Anyway, enough prattle, have some pictures!

I'm currently building and painting my flyer base for my Storm Raven so hopefully some pictures of that will grace my blog in the next day or two, I've tried to make a little diorama out of it, but we will see how well that turns out!!

Thanks for tuning in again so see my offerings,

Peace out,

Rob
