Eldar Wraithblade Paint Scheme - Proof of Concept

Hey all,

So as I mentione din yesterdays post, I had enough time between paints drying on the Night Lords that I manged to start a single Wraithblade to put together my proof of concept paint scheme! I also have white background pictures of the Yncarne below, so if you aren't interested in the Wraithblade you can just skip down :P

I wanted this entire army to be dark. I felt it befitted the rising legion of the dead, particularly when we are in the Grim Dark future of 40k! I also wanted the scheme to be relatively simplistic, so I have gone for the same deep metallic black that I used to painted the Yncarne's body and have just used the abundance of gems to provide points colours, then I went with a blend similar to the souls swirl of the Yncarne for the face plate and the cloth.

Don't mistake! I still have a LOT to do on this bugger. The axe needs all the gems picking out and splattering with blood, the axe handle needs some slight additional highlights and all the gems needs additional lines followed by a glaze. But overall I am pleased with where this is going.

For those that skipped straight down, here's the Yncarne you were wanting to see :)

I hope you all enjoyed the dirty eldar filth assaulting your eyeballs :)

Peace out,

Rob

  1. Dirty Aeldari filth, but not grand fromage with Wraithblades and not D-Scythe toting Wraithguard. Nice to see. Ah, thanks for the white background, yes can see the armour of the Yncarne now, much clearer and a great job too. I think the Wraithguard/blade scheme will fit right in, and even allied with your Solar Auxila! Lol. It's nice, a moody dark force of Aeldari, not the usual primary colours.

    1. I can't countenance taking ranged D at any level in the game personally. Even in apocalypse I just can't get behind it as fun.

I will definitely be running sub-optimal Eldar, though that will still be tough! No scat packs for me, I'll be self restricting to 1 in 3 for special weapons on jet bikes.

Glad the white background has worked out OK now :)

  2. Looks good, see if you can sneak them in alongside the auxilia-after all, the aeldari poked their noses into the heresy enough!

  3. Much nicer on the white background Rob! Coming along very nicely, will need to get a game in when you finish the army.

    1. Well I am hoping to get these up and running at 1850 points pretty quickly (relatively speaking), so that would be a grand idea!

  5. Yeah, that is a great scheme for Wraith-Units.

On the blood spatter, one thing I've started doing with Power Weapons and such is leaving the blood spatter off of the power-fielded area (blade, maul head, whatever), like it gets burnt clear by the field, but remains on the handle, blade mount, user, etc.

    1. Thats a really cool idea mate, I probably won't use it on these as I quite like the idea that instead of being powered they are just sharp metal being wielded by strong bastards, but with my sisters of silence I think I'll give that a crack!
