Review of Scibor Products

Pleasure to make your acquaintance,

Today I am going to have a look at a couple of items that I recently purchased from Scibor miniatures. I bought some mechanical wings and their Lion El'Johnson equivalent model. You can see the parts all assembled together here but I thought I would review them as they came for you peoples.

Here are a few pictures of the parts as they arrived:

The detail of the actual models themselves are lovely, but for the premium price I paid I feel like the quality of the actual casting process is lacklustre. I don't know if this is because of poor mold design or whether or not they just pump too much resin into the mold but it required an obscene amount of clean up compared to other companies of a similar ilk.

Below is some other items that I received from both MaxMini (power fists) and Kromlech (legionary biker legs):

I have done zero clean up on these models and yes they are less fiddly than the mechanical wings for example, but they are still fantastically well cast with minimal amounts of flash and excellent detail. They also come in at generally a lower price point than Scibor I think, at least with regards to the particular sort of parts I am looking at.

Overall I am not unhappy with the two items I have from Scibor, but these purchases have dissuaded me from making any more significant purchases from Scibor unless I have no alternative.

I will be putting reviews together of all my MaxMini purchases and Kromlech purchases over the coming week, as well as some from Anvil Industry when that order arrives. If you are interested in how these all stack up together then they should be of interest!

Peace out,

Rob

  1. Shame on the flash cleanup. That's important to note in the review, and I appreciate it!

  2. Good to know. This reminds me, I need to do a review of the stuff I got from Blood and Skulls.

    1. Yeah I have gone back and cleaned them up more since putting the bits together as well. Beautiful models though overall.

  4. I am a big fan of the Scibor bases, they have some really great thematic stuff that fits particularly well with my Iron Snakes. You are spot on about the cleaning up required on the models though, as beautiful as they are. Looking forward to the other reviews; I should probably do some for Chapterhouse and Victoria Miniatures, we can exchange notes ;-)

    1. Oooh I shall also look forward to those reviews, particularly victoria miniatures, I have always been sorely tempted by their ranges for a guard army or as Inquisition fodder!
